Kenji Yoshino Scheduled to Speak about his new book “Covering: The Hidden Assault On Our Civil Rights

Deputy Dean for intellectual life and law professor at Yale Law School Kenji Yoshino will speak about his new book, Covering: The Hidden Assault On Our Civil Rights, at William Mitchell College of Law on Friday, April 27.
Yoshino’s autobiography redefines civil rights in our law and culture. He discusses how people “tone down” their race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, and disability in order to fit into the mainstream. Yoshino maintains that this act, which Erving Goffman previously coined as ‘covering,’threatens our civil rights.
His book has already garnered many positive reviews. Publishers Weekly said, “Seldom has a work of such careful intellectual rigor and fairness been so deeply touching. Yoshino... masterfully melds autobiography and legal scholarship, marking a move from more traditional pleas for civil equality to a case for individual autonomy in identity politics...
