Now's the time to take things to the next step. It's time to read ahead on the courses you are about to take, ensure you've covered the materials so you know what classes you are about to get into. We all know the bewildering effect we have when we set down in the middle of a movie and don't know the premise. We have no idea what is going on. Well when you set down as a 1L, make sure you have a clue what you are in for. Read course outlines, look at the terms and language of the materials you are about to cover, and even do some online research of the particular school and instructors you are about to meet and study under. Knowledge is power and preparation is success.
Read the course specific guides. If there are textbooks you are expected to buy, buy them early, read a chapter or two, search the index, plan things out. Don't be overly awed by your new studies, but take it in stride, with plenty of foresight and anticipation. Spending a little time with a pre-1L tutor might even be wise. But don't sweat it: you will do great as a 1L. After all, you made it this far.
